Capital Fund Program

The Mexico Housing Authority has invested nearly $8 million in capital improvements in its public housing developments in the last ten years. Those improvements were funded under HUD's Capital Fund Program. The Capital Fund Program involves a direct allocation to eligible housing authorities based on a formula which reflects the relative need for modernization funding. Every five years, the Mexico Housing Authority is required to do a complete physical and management needs assessment to be used as a basis of its five year plan for modernization which is submitted to HUD for approval. A planning committee consisting of a few staff members and resident leadership meet each year to update the modernization plan.

This is a list of some of the improvements that have been performed using the Capital Fund Program during the last ten years. All 212 of our dwelling units have had high efficiency furnaces and central air units installed. During the last ten years the shingle roofs have been replaced, plus exterior painting, new windows, security screens, and also exterior security lighting. Sidewalks have been replaced and tenant parking spaces have been added. Interior renovation of the dwelling units have included upgraded electrical, kitchen cabinets, new light fixtures, new floor tile, interior doors, plumbing, and new refrigerators and ranges.
